Frequently Asked Questions

The Vanguard Stocks and Shares ISA uses the standard UK ISA allowance of £20,000 per tax year (2025/26). This allowance is shared across all ISA types — Cash ISA, Stocks and Shares ISA, Lifetime ISA (up to £4,000), and Innovative Finance ISA. You can split the £20,000 between different ISA types but cannot exceed the total.
Vanguard charges a platform fee of just 0.15% per year, capped at £375 for accounts over £250,000. There are no trading fees for buying or selling funds. You will also pay the underlying fund ongoing charges (OCFs), which range from 0.06% to 0.78% depending on the fund, with most index trackers under 0.15%.
Yes. Vanguard Investments UK is authorised and regulated by the FCA (reference number 527839). Your investments are protected by FSCS up to £85,000 if Vanguard were to fail. Your funds are also held separately from Vanguard's own assets, providing additional structural protection.
Yes. You can transfer Cash ISAs and Stocks and Shares ISAs from other providers to Vanguard. Cash transfers typically take 15-30 working days and stock transfers may take longer. Transferring preserves your ISA tax-free status and does not count towards your annual allowance.
The Vanguard ISA offers access to 80+ Vanguard funds, including popular index trackers like the FTSE Global All Cap Index Fund, LifeStrategy funds, and ESG options. However, you cannot access funds from other providers. All funds are Vanguard-managed and cover global equities, bonds, and multi-asset portfolios.
Yes. The Vanguard ISA is one of the most beginner-friendly investment platforms in the UK. The LifeStrategy range offers ready-made portfolios with different risk levels (20% to 100% equity allocation), and the simple interface avoids overwhelming new investors with unnecessary complexity.
Yes. You can withdraw money from your Vanguard Stocks and Shares ISA at any time. However, the Vanguard ISA is not a flexible ISA, meaning any withdrawals cannot be replaced within the same tax year without using your remaining allowance. Withdrawals typically take 3-5 working days to reach your bank account.
A Cash ISA holds your money in cash with a guaranteed interest rate, similar to a savings account. The Vanguard Stocks and Shares ISA invests your money in funds that hold shares, bonds, or both. Stocks and Shares ISAs carry more risk but have historically delivered significantly higher returns over the long term (5+ years).
